A Brief History

The Notations began in September of 2009 when some of the older Kids of Note members needed a more age-appropriate group. Brenda Baker’s sister, Diane Phillips, volunteered to lead them! Without that offer, starting The Notations would have been a huge challenge. In the fall of 2014 Diane began to receive payment for her work, which is a good sign! Our choirs are becoming financially stable and we hope to be around for a long time to come.

The group’s name was chosen in the Spring of 2010 after much input from the choristers in the new ensemble, as well as members of Kids of Note and all of their families. In the Spring of 2015 we launched our own logo, designed by Ian Thayer.

In the Fall of 2015 Diane moved over to direct Kids of Note for two years, and Jean Currie became the new director. With her years of experience directing the vocal jazz ensemble Solstice, The Notations were in good hands. Under her direction the group has continued to develop their musical skills and delivered some impressive performances!
